For products made in our Rayon Crepe fabric we suggest you care for the garment in the same way you would for an original 40’s garment.

We recommend you hand wash the garment just as they did back in the 1940’s, although nowadays you can dry clean them instead if you wish!

Best not to dry them in direct sunlight or in an excessively hot place, as this can cause the natural yarn to twist and subsequently shrink.

If you find you have washed or dried the garment too hot by accident, you can try the following method to regain the original size and fit. Although this isn’t guaranteed to work, it may help!

1. Please soak the garment in cold water with a very generous helping of fabric conditioner and leave overnight.

2. Then, rinse the garment in fresh cold water and as you gently squeeze out the excess water, stretch the garment in both width and length as far as you can.

3. Lay the garment flat on a towel to start drying slowly; but iron while it is still damp, again stretching in both directions.

Disappointed in this one. I don't know if I'm just overestimating my bodyshape at this time of the month [Shark Week] or if this dress is just a VERY small size 10...but two things happened when I tried it on. Firstly, there is almost NO flex or stretch whatsoever. I know this is meant to be something you'd put on over shapewear, but I'm a) trying to avoid giving into the idea that I must be perpetually "snatched" and b) it's 2026. We don't dress in such antiquated/old-fashioned/patriarchal layers any longer. Anyway - my point is that for such a shape, I expected there to be a little give in the waist and belly. Nope.

Secondly, and this is the awful bit - the bust-to-shoulder area is SO comically undersized, that when I put the dress on without any underthings as a quick test before I had the dress dry-cleaned, the bust area was so small that it flattened and squeezed my bust DOWN below the stitch line and simultaneously mushing the skin above my cleavage UP, so that I had these weird, flat-but-raised fat pockets above my actual "chest area". The tight fabric therefore made me look like I had two pairs of "chest items" instead of one. [I don't know if this website has language filters on, so hopefully you know what I mean].

I'm going to wait for another week and try again, but it was really dispiriting - I fit into a size 10 regularly, so this was just awful.

The fabric feels quite synthetic and scratchy, and given the texture, it's a dress which will show underarm sweat quite dramatically.

Aside from that, the colour and shape of the dress are both beautiful.
